EU grant to Per Delsing

Chalmers professor Per Delsing gets 25 MSEK during 5 years in the European Research Council's (ERC) second competition for established top researchers.

Per Delsing is one of 236 research leaders selected by ERC. The title of his project is "Quantum optics with microwave photons building a tool-box based on superconducting
technology".

Under the EU's 7th Research Framework Programme, the ERC supports projects aiming at making important discoveries in any domain, from economics to nanotechnology or from psychology to climate change.

The goal of the research done by Per Delsing's team is to understand, describe and utilize electron transport in very small metallic, superconducting and molecular systems.

The measured samples are typically made with electron beam lithography and have minimum feature sizes down to 20nm. The research can be divided into two main tracks:

i) Experiments for basic understanding of quantum mechanics in solid state structures.

ii) Sensors and detectors based on small solid state structures.
